April 26, 2008
Here is an email that went out to the first 42 members of the South Florida Metro Recruiters group on RecruitingBlogs.com…
Web 2.0 Recruiting: An ERE webinar with Kevin Wheeler on May 15, 2008
April 25, 2008
Scott Baxt runs ERE’s marketing machine out of his office in Wellington. He is also a member of the South Florida Metro Recruiters group on RecruitingBlogs.com where he posted this:
There has been a lot of hype about Web 2.0 Recruiting. Some claim it is how the future of recruiting will evolve, some that it’s just a fad. This webinar will explore the good and the bad. Kevin [Wheeler] will use case studies and examples to show how organizations are benefiting from elements of Web 2.0, and how blogs, social networks, and even email and SMS can make you a more effective recruiter. He will also discuss the downsides of Web 2.0 and what the trade-offs are when it replaces other forms for recruiting. There will be plenty of time for comments and Q&A, so bring your questions and best practices to share.
Get the details here, register if you can. This looks very interesting.
Scholarships and bling-bling
April 25, 2008
Elgin Jones reports in the South Florida Times that Lauderhill Mayor Richard Kaplan and other city officials have implemented a program to use funds seized from criminal activities to provide $1,000 scholarships to students in the city. They presently have four scholarships available.
Um, four grand, eh? Crime must be way down in Lauderhill. Or maybe they’ve stopped auctioning off seized houses, cars and boats and have taken to donating them to other ‘good causes,’ more deserving than tomorrow’s workforce.
Networked Recruiter Event on May 28, 2008 in Fort Lauderdale
April 24, 2008
Jimmy Tam who puts in a hard days work at Ryder Systems in Miami sent me this:
Join us for the Fort Lauderdale Networked Recruiter Event
Wednesday May 28th, 2008
6.00 – 8:00PM at the HardRock
Networked Recruiter facilitates a friendly atmosphere without product announcements, speeches, or an event fee. This event is simply to build relationships with like minded professionals; attendees are responsible for their expenses.
Networked Recruiter is intended for professionals in HR, Recruiting, Staffing Agencies, BD, and Account Management, but everyone is welcome. As a candidate or vendor, this is a great venue if you are looking to locate a recruiter you can trust.
This will be our first event in Ft. Lauderdale so I hope a lot of recruiters (staffing / corporate / independents) will be there. Of course, everyone is welcome. Should be a good time with plenty of socializing.
You can get the scoop on the Recruiter Network site.

Spherion slighty down, Lotto holds it own
April 22, 2008
Local staffing powerhouse Spherion Corp. said it expects lower earnings and revenue for the first quarter because of a weak economic environment. The company now expects between $573 million and $578 million in revenue, “down slightly” from an earlier estimate of between $585 million and $600 million.
Well, if between $12 and $22 million is “slightly down” I wouldn’t mind being slightly up – just a point or two.
To put things in perspective for the man or woman on the street, the Florida Lottery stands at $32 million, slightly up from last week.
