South Florida Metro Recruiters – An important announcement [or two]

Here is an email that went out to the first 42 members of the South Florida Metro Recruiters group on RecruitingBlogs.com

Hello, everybody!

First off I want to thank you for joining the South Florida Metro Recruiters group on RecruitingBlogs.com. As this is my first mailing to the group, I thought it might be helpful to explain my purpose. If you like it you can make it your purpose too.

Among many things of course, RecruitingBlogs.com is helpful for those of us that want to maintain connections with each other and a community of peers at-large. As a social network – like any of the platforms we could have chosen – there are pros and cons. I’m sure if there are ‘ningling’ problems we can overlook them for the benefits of being connected there. For sure, the pros far outweigh the cons.

That said, I think it is important for us to have a separate identity from the generic branding that comes with RecruitingBlogs.com. As a platform, RecruitingBlogs.com is a means to an end, not an end in of itself. I believe we should be more closely identified with the goals of the South Florida Metro Recruiters group than with those of RecruitingBlogs.com, however closley aligned they might be. To do that we need our own spaces – online and physical.

Have a look at our new site. I would be delighted if you would bookmark, blogroll and generally publicize it. You can subscribe to the posts via RSS or email. I will also link to new posts on the group page on RecruitingBlogs.com.

On the site you’ll find a statement of the South Florida Metro Recruiters’ goals. I hope you will take a minute to read them on the ‘Home’ and ‘About Us ‘pages and think the implications through. The possibility exists to do great things!

Please share your comments and suggestions about the site because ultimately it is for you and your friends to use and enjoy. By using our site and RecruitingBlogs.com for the complimentary purposes they are best suited for you will be helping optimize the group’s presence online and our own online community.

To the physical component, don’t miss out on our networking events like the one being organized by Claudia Faust. We will be hanging out for a bit in Coral Springs on Thursday, May, 1. Be sure to RSVP or might run short on biscotti. Details here… These and other activities will be a regular fixtures on our calendar so stay tuned.

The South Florida Metro Recruiters group is part of an ongoing experiment. It ties in with my collaboration the Recruiting Roadshow, my BROWN BAG RECRUITER initiative and a strong personal desire to be more involved with my local community.

As this experiment of ‘bringing physical community to online social networks’ unfolds – or unravels as the case may be – I hope you will want to participate. If not, I hope you at least get some value from sitting back and watching whoever does muck-in learn some valuable lessons about what it really means — and takes — to be ‘connected.’

Have a nice weekend!
